Andrea Ucini tackles low interest rates on certificates of deposit in his illustration of a man balancing on the shoulders of another man. The men discover that a higher return on a CD is farther away than they thought.
The 3% return they’d hoped for is for a home equity line of credit instead of a CD.
In Ucini’s illustration, a piggy bank sits on one end of a seesaw as one of the men prepares to jump onto the seesaw so the piggy bank, and the savings inside, will land within reach. Ucini uses scale and foreshortening to show the futility of building wealth under current economic conditions in his conceptual illustration.
