Iliana Galvez was commissioned by The Progressive Magazine to create this 3/4 page illustration about how anti-LGBTQ+ legislation is affecting youth and schools.
The brief given by Susan Webb, art director of The Progressive Magazine, was to create an illustration focusing on the Don’t Say Gay bill’s effects on students and teachers and how teachers are advocating to protect their students. There should be a sense of direness yet also focus on hopefulness.
Iliana’s idea for the concept was a group of teachers protecting their students from being crushed. The colors are bright and showcase a diverse group of students and teachers.\
