Audrey Malo was commissioned by Éditions La Mèche to illustrate the upcoming cover of Jules Clara’s new novel, L’amour et la fête, set to hit bookstores on February 25.

A misplaced passport becomes the trigger for a biting narrative in which intimate drift intertwines with collective chaos. In a Montreal saturated with lineups and failing federal institutions, a woman wavers between the erosion of her relationship, the low hum of everyday anxiety, and the irony of the times. Following the absurd advice of Service Canada, she finds herself boarding a train to Jonquière without luggage or a plan, as if pulled along by the logic of an escape that is both improbable and inevitable. In this flight, tinged with wandering and excess, the absurd takes on the shape of destiny: a night of celebration becomes the stage for a possible new beginning, where the fragile certainty of a new love emerges at the heart of the chaos.
