Joe Anderson has been drawing since he could hold a pencil. He spent most of his childhood drawing cars because his father had a passion for European sports cars. He studied Fine Arts at the University of Washington and is a graphic designer, a teacher, and an illustrator.
Based on the San Juan Islands, off the coast of Washington State, Anderson draws inspiration from travel, nature, music, film, books, people’s stories, fine arts and more. A keen gardener, outdoor enthusiast, and passionate traveler, Anderson would have been a park ranger if he hadn’t become an illustrator.
Anderson explores the human condition through his whimsical illustrations which begin on paper and are rebuilt digitally, incorporating handmade textures and marks. His editorial illustration can be found on the pages of newspapers and magazines across the globe.
