Bea Barros / DK Books / Illustrations for the first published book with DK and Dr Ranj

The project involved creating a series of character-based illustrations and educational visuals for a children’s non-fiction title focused on the human body and science learning. The illustrations were developed to make complex topics more engaging, approachable, and easy to understand for young readers.
Published by DK, the book combines informative content with playful and expressive visuals designed for both educational and commercial appeal. The illustration work included character design, spot illustrations, diagrams, and full-page visuals used throughout the book.
The project was developed alongside the DK team led by Sophie Gordon and Diana Peyton Jones, Managing Art Editor, who collaborated closely throughout the illustration and design process.
For Bea, the project marked a significant milestone in her illustration career, particularly as someone who previously worked mainly across editorial, branding, and commercial illustration projects. The book is now available for preorder and will officially be released in June 2026.
The project was completed in collaboration with the editorial and design team at DK Books and authored by Dr Ranj, a well-known television presenter and medical doctor recognised for making health and science topics accessible for children and families.
Bea Lynor Barros is represented by Anna Goodson Illustration Agency. Her previous clients include Snapchat, The Boston Globe, Cincinnati Magazine, Purdue University, and Rebel Girls.
