Clare Mallison was commissioned by The Wall Street Journal to illustrate an article about how sales of children’s books in historical fiction are rising. Authors like Alan Gratz and Jennifer Nielsen are filling school auditoriums on speaking tours, and publishers are racing to churn out more historical fiction about bombings, spies and young resistant fighters.
