Daniella Ferretti / Boston Globe / The Books of Records revision

Daniella Ferretti was asked to create an illustration for Boston Globe Books and its revision of The Book of Records by Madeleine Thien. The novel is the story of Lina in a staging post between migrations called The Sea. The place is described as “a building made of time,” where the rules of time and space as we know them don’t apply. The neighbors are figures from different centuries and parts of the world. They have alternate versions of some characters from some books that her father brought.

For this project Daniella created a visual representation of The Sea, a place with a feeling of permanent night and one can walk for hours, never turning, or doubling back.
