Diego Blanco / Café Riggs / LGBTQ+ Cocktails

Diego Blanco

Diego Blanco was commissioned by the iconic and stylish Café Riggs in Washington, D.C., to illustrate a special cocktail menu celebrating trailblazers of LGBTQ+ history. Titled Icons, the menu honors individuals who lived boldly and authentically—figures who sparked lasting change and helped shape queer culture across generations.

Through four original illustrations, Diego brought to life the stories and spirits of:

James Baldwin, reflected in a cocktail as bold and complex as his prose.

Marsha P. Johnson, vibrant and floral, echoing her fearless activism and joyful energy.

Harvey Milk, bright and uplifting, paying tribute to his political courage and legacy.

Elton John, sparkling and flamboyant, capturing his unmatched charisma and glamor.

In addition to the character portraits, Diego also illustrated the cover of the menu, offering a detailed view of Café Riggs’ stunning interior—a refined and elegant space that sets the perfect scene for this tribute.

Collaborating with Café Riggs on this project was an honor for Diego. Blending art, history, and mixology, the Icons menu is a heartfelt toast to the voices, visions, and victories that continue to inspire.
