Lucila Perini / The Persistent / How Back to School Puts Working Moms in an Impossible Bind

Lucila Perini

Lucila Perini was commissioned to create the main illustration for a new article published in The Persistent, titled “How Back to School Puts Working Moms in an Impossible Bind.”

The piece explores the yearly struggle of working parents—particularly mothers—who must juggle school calendars that rarely align with workplace demands. It sheds light on how limited paid leave and unexpected school closures add extra pressure to mothers, who continue to carry most caregiving responsibilities.

Lucila’s illustration was designed to capture this tension, portraying the emotional and logistical balancing act faced by working moms each school year.
