Nathan Hackett / Amazon / Inside the grocery operation Amazon built to be pickier than you

Nathan illustrated for a story highlighting the efforts of Amazon and the details of their grocery project that ensure the produce is as green and fresh as it could be.

The story covered a behind the scenes investigation in the enormous quality control divisions at Amazon and Whole Foods Market, and follows the differing journeys of choice produce from farming to the consumers doorstep. A lot of the information isn’t publicly realised or readily available so the goal of the illustrations was to spotlight the hidden workers of Amazon and the resources they have poured into quality control.

Beginning with an opening illustration of order delivery and asking how the produce gets there, Nathan illustrated a U.S map featuring five products of grocery farming to explore the various sources and methods, and closes with an animated map of the Amazon warehouse and the innovative workings of the zonal sections and streamlined pathways that allows their packers to juggle multiple orders and keep them as fresh as possible,

Nathan illustrated for both web and mobile compatibility using some choice colours from colour palettes to best harmonise with other graphics and the user experience design. The illustrations had to relay a lot of information, but also be easily navigated when accompanied with the written article to make the reading easier to digest and understand.
