Nathan Hackett / W.W. Norton / Microbiology of Healthcare

Nathan Hackett

Nathan was asked to illustrate a cover for the Essential Microbiology of Healthcare that will prepare students training in allied health. The book shows microbiology and its relation to infection and disease in everyday life and healthcare settings.

Nathan was tasked with illustrating a cover of a busy floor of a hospital wing with different narratives and healthcare professionals navigating their work setting from dangerous microbes that typically spread with patient interaction and then fundamentals on how it is avoided.

Nathan’s brief was to illustrate a birds eye view with four choice and recognisable microbe cultures appearing in the scene in four different narratives of an ICU floor. The cover represented a lot of fields that students will soon interact with so diverse representation and colourful variation of healthcare professional options was important so the reader felt recognised in the text.
