Van Saiyan / Eme21mag / Madrid Destino / Illustrated Cultural Map: New Madrid Comedies

Van Saiyan was commissioned to create the Illustrated Cultural Map: New Madrid Comedies, a collaborative project developed with Eme21mag, Madrid Destino (Madrid City Council), and Madrid Film Office. This illustrated city map celebrates some of the most iconic and acclaimed Spanish comedy TV series filmed in Madrid, showcasing the city’s streets, neighborhoods, and landmarks as both unforgettable filming locations and characters in their own right.

Having lived in Madrid, Spain for ten years, this commission held special personal significance for Van Saiyan. Every street, plaza, and hidden corner featured in the map evoked memories, turning the illustration process into a nostalgic journey through the city that was once home. Blending editorial illustration, cultural storytelling, and map design, the project highlights Madrid’s rich audiovisual heritage while inviting visitors and locals alike to explore the real-life locations behind some of Spain’s most beloved television comedies.
