Alex Antonescu / The New York Times/ Opinion section about the gay life
Alex Antonescu was commissioned by The New York Times to illustrate an essay for the Opinion section about the gay life and how it will never be normal. As a queer persona himself, the inconvenient truth that “We’ll never be normal” spoke to him right away. The subject of not fitting in, always standing out and shining through our differences needed to be translated in clear. Alex chose to represent the standout queers with a powerful, symbolic interpretation of a car jam; a day-to-day activity that we all do, but being gay manage to do it differently, stand out and “not be normal”.
