Andy Potts has created a new BBC Science Focus cover illustration and animation, for the Apple News edition, on the mysterious matter of The Dark Universe. Andy had to visualise strange distortions in space and time that may reveal hidden forces controlling the cosmos. The abstract shape animation was created in Cinema 4D and a graphic black on white palette was chosen for the looks and feel. Andy also created the headline typography that would interact with the undulating shape and added subtle grid elements to suggest an attempt to quantify the unquantifiable. The final cover print had a UV spot effect to enhance the illustration and the animation was featured on Apple News’ Spotlight section.
