Mai Ly Degnan / Defend Democracy Poster, Norman Rockwell Museum

Mai Ly Degnan was one out of 6 illustrators commissioned, by the Norman Rockwell Museum’s Unity Project, to create an image highlighting the importance of voting. In this piece, Mai Ly chose to illustrate a scene of strong women performing their civic duty of voting in this time of utmost uncertainty. Using colourful masks, Mai Ly illustrated women “defending democracy,” highlighting and acknowledging the fact that we are in the midst of an unprecedented pandemic.
