Nathan Hackett / The Economist / Pocket World Figures

Nathan was asked to illustrate the book cover for 2022’s ‘Pocket World in Figures’, an annual book that collects data from over 180 countries. The pocket guide presents collected data in new and updated rankings and country profiles with easy to read graphs and charts.

Every year, the Economist expands and updates their Pocket World edition through data journalism and statistical analysis and includes ‘fiendish quizzes’ that test the readers knowledge.

The illustration had to stand out from other editions of Pocket World in Figures, but also play with the ‘global theme’ married with the books contents of graphs, numbers and data. The books tone was reflected in this covers palette and characters to showcase the approachable levity the pocket guide book brings.
