Nathan Hackett / Insider / King Charles Coronation Explainer

Nathan was asked by Insider to make a visual explainer of what is to be expected at the coronation of King Charles this weekend.
The illustration follows Charles and Camilla beginning at Buckingham Palace, and following the royal procession to Westminster Abbey, the presentation and ceremony and ending with crowned monarchs at the royal balcony back at Buckingham Palace.
The illustration features some colours from the palette of Insiders coverage of the royal event as well as choice visuals expected at the spectacle. The challenge of the telling of the narrative necessitated recurring characters and happenings within the same space and a blurring of inside and outside that needed to be carefully constructed into the images composition.
