Nathan Hackett / Wall Street Journal / For Once, Rookie Consultants Don’t Have Enough to Do

Nathan Hackett

Nathan was tasked with illustrating an article exploring how new recruits in business consultant firms are going through a period of under utilisation.

Termed as ‘on the bench’ or ‘at the beach’, junior consultants are being paid on retainer for when the demand will turn again and consultant firms aren’t caught shorthanded. As a result of this, younger consultants have nothing to fill their time with, other than Netflix, to wait for the promised project they yearn for.
Nathan illustrated the younger staffers idly waiting ‘at the beach’ to communicate with humor the passivity and inert frustration they are feeling juxtaposed with their idyllic setting and suggests marooned abandonment.
